Character Analysis
The main characters in the book are Percy, Frank and Hazel.
Perseus(Percy) Jackson is a loyal, sometimes a bit stupid, and a really good sword fighter. I say this because even Mars, the god, says “He’s too loyal to his friends.” (Riordan, 364) and when Percy is told about the Feast of Fortuna he says “You have a feast for tuna?” (Riordan, 41). Also when Hazel asks if Percy is dangerous and Nico replies “Very. To his enemies. But he’s not a threat to Camp Jupiter. You can trust him.” (Riordan, 68).
The second main character is Frank Zhang. He is clumsy, a good leader, but not without fear. He is often referred as clumsy in the book this is just one example “One good thing about being big, clumsy, and clad in metal: Frank was like a heavily armored bowling ball.” (Riordan, 137). Also Frank’s leadership skills are awesome like here in this excerpt “Without you, Frank—without your sense of duty—he’s going to fail.” (Riordan, 364), but Frank gets scared easily even by a godly horse, here is an example “But Arion scared him, and Frank was pretty sure the horse knew it.’ (Riordan, 347).
The final character of the trio is Hazel Levesque. She is old-fashioned, a leader, and loving. She is old-fashioned in the sense that whenever she sees modern technology she freaks out in a bad way, like this time “But the first time she went on furlough to Berkeley, she nearly had a stroke.” (Riordan, 94). She was the leader before Frank took over, but is still the only one that can think fast in a dangerous situation. This example is from when the gorgons are chasing Percy, “Still, she sounded like the one in charge.” (Riordan, 21). She in this quote is referring to Hazel. Hazel’s final trait is that she is loving and creates a sense of family. “It was totally a sisterly kiss. But she smiled with such affection, it warmed Percy right down to his feet.” (Riordan, 392). In this quote when Percy is feeling down, cold and sad, Hazel picks his spirits up.
